You are burning for fashion, sustainability and good style? Maybe even have your own label? Then the Sustainable Fashion Award from Jak&Jil is exactly what you need.
The globally active fashion platform has started in Brazil, meanwhile travelling internationally and above all: her heart beats deep inside for fair and ethically produced fashion and wants to get involved in this area more.
The Sustainable Fashion Awards (SFA) offers one designer or fashion brand a chance to win $3,000 while simultaneously donating that exact same amount to a participating NGO partner of choice. Total prize value is USD $6000!
The initiators behind this award, Jak&Jil, an online fashion platform and the e-commerce part of tech startup Mucca. Together they believe in a world where every piece of clothing has passed through an ethical and environmental supply chain, is designed well and is of high-quality. A love of good, sustainable design and fashion done right is what motivates this partnership.
The team want to highlight the brilliant work of emerging and established fashion brands that are taking corrective action to reduce environmental footprint. The entry that scores the highest points against strict selection criteria, as deemed by the jury will win the Sustainable Fashion Award 2018 and take home the amazing cash prize.

The international judging committee consists of industry professionals who have a sustainability-focus such as eco-fashion pioneer Sass Brown, also the Founding Dean of the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation,Fernanda Simon, Brazil’s Fashion Revolution Country Coordinator and Brazil Eco Fashion Week co-organiser, Florian Guillaume, co-founder of Europe Tomorrow and a sustainable and social innovation leader, as well as our very own Editor in Chief, Jennifer Nini.
This a global award and is open to designers and brands from every country, either emerging talents or established professionals, who are leading the way to a sustainable fashion future, and have at least one completed project on this subject. The project can range from one garment to an entire collection. To be eligible for award consideration, the project must possess at least one of the socially-conscious or environmentally-friendly features below:
- Handmade pieces
- Local manufacturing
- Develop Fair Trade
- Smart design
- Slow fashion
- Zero fabric waste
- Animal welfare
- Use of recycled, upcycled or organic materials
- Full product lifecycle assessment and reduction of impacts
There is no entry fee payable. All you need to do is ensure you check off one of these features and you’ll be eligible to win the SFA 2018 award and prize! The deadline for entries is 23:59 GMT on Friday 31 August 2018.
How to enter
To submit your project for consideration, make sure to follow these steps:
- Register the required personal information on the entry page here;
- Complete all fields as required, providing explanations for each box as prompted
- Upload your project’s supporting images (this is important, stylish, well-captured images of detailing are always crucial in fashion!)
Key points to remember: You will need to provide a product description of up to 1500 characters that explores the topic of fashion sustainability, names of those who should be credited for design and production and careful selection of fashion product images (must contain at least one image, and you can attach up to 20).
How the winner will be chosen
Once the application period ends, Mucca will go through all project entries and select the ones that have complied with the strict eligibility criteria. The judging committee will then evaluate the valid projects assigning a score from 0 to 10 on each of the following: innovation, design, technical quality and sustainability.
The project that earns the most points from the international panel wins the Sustainable Fashion Award for 2018 and claims the prize.
